Density Range

E-Glass Pipe Insulation is normally supplied at the optimum density for ease of handling.  The normal density range of HITLIN E-Glass is from 180 to 220 kg/m³.  E-Glass Fiber maintains its structural integrity even after years of service at high temperatures -- this is due to the mechanical binding in the needle mat manufacturing process.  Other insulations become cracked or broken (chemical &/or physical reaction) when exposed to high temperatures.

Accoustic Qualities

Although primarily designed for thermal insulation, HITLIN™ has a highly pourous interconnected fibrous structure with good sound absorption qualities.

Water Repellancy Data

Water repellancy data below is based on materials which have been specially treated.
E-Glass Fiber Pipe Insulation is tested with continuous water drops  over a several day period of time, without damage.  During this period, the insulation will slowly absorb some water (below 10% of weight).  If exposed, it can be dried out and still remain water repellant.

Insulation pH Value

Selection criteria for insulation should also include pH.  pH levels above or below neutral values may promote corrosion under insulation.

Chloride Leaching and Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)

Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of austensic stainless steel may be encountered when the steel is exposed with solutions containing halide ions, especially chloride ions.  Chlorides are a potential source of halide ions.  Some quantities of silicate are necessary to prevent the cracking phenomena; they tend to nullify the effect of chlorides.  HITLIN™ E-Glass fiber has a very low leachable chloride content and an optimum amount of silicate material.  These amounts fall well within acceptable ranges.
