• Per manufacturer’s data sheets, “Fiberglass Pipe & Tank Wrap glass material is intended for indoor use.”  In practice, these materials can soak up water and become largely ineffective as an insulator.  The lack of a solid base makes installation of weather protection difficult and, it is practically impossible to protect this fiberglass from eventual exposure to the elements.  “Banding” (commonly used to hold metal sheathing in place over high density industrial insulation materials) cannot be effectively used with Fiberglass Pipe & Tank Wrap material: again, because of soft, low-density insulation material.  Top apply metal sheathing over Fiberglass Pipe & Tank Wrap requires a “loose Fit” that requires use of fastening screws instead of banding.  This makes sheathing and insulation more susceptible to winds and rain.  “Loose Fit” has been a boom for the sale of Dockers and Jeans but should not be used to protect critical thermal industrial insulation.
